A Flannel Friendsgiving

It was our first time hosting a gathering under the name of Where Roses Bloom, and what a success it was! A Flannel Friendsgiving came together over many, many dedicated hours to painting leaves, handwriting place cards, gathering pine cones, and creating elegant floral arrangements. Oh, and lots and lots of baking.  We are so incredibly happy with how everything turned out, and extremely impressed by the talented cooks we call friends! Who knew?!

We are two very blessed girls who are so thankful for the opportunity to have their friends gather together and enjoy each other’s company during this busy holiday season. Take a look at our pictures as we reminisce on such a beautiful night with a few close Nashville friends.

Crock-Pot Dressing

There are times when you need a super simple yet tasty recipe. Sunday evening was definitely one of those times. Thankfully for me, my mother has always made the yummiest dressing for the holidays, so I purchased the ingredients & had it cooking in just a few minutes. It’s a Crock-Pot recipe which means all you have to do is mix up the ingredients, place them in the pot & you’re good to go! It doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?

Ingredients needed for this tasty recipe:

1 (8 inch) pan cornbread
8 slices dry white bread
4 eggs
2 c. chicken broth
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 tsp. sage
1/2 tsp. black pepper
Celery to taste
1 med. onion
2 tbsp. butter

Mix all of the ingredients except the butter together and place them in the crock pot. Add the 2 tbsp. of butter to the top of the mixture in thin slices.  Cook on high for 2 hours and then on low for 4 hours, making sure to stir the ingredients every 20-30 minutes so that they do not stick to your pot.

And that’s it! I’m thankful for recipes, especially Crock-Pot recipes, for times when I’m trying to cook quite a few things at once and need space in my oven.

DIY: Pennant Banner

As the holidays have quickly started approaching, I’ve gone into a crafty state-of-mind. It’s all I can think about! Just the other day, I caught myself searching house after house for pinecones lying in yards for a project I’m currently working on. I can’t lie though, I absolutely love it.

One of the latest projects is a pennant banner that I worked on this weekend. It is a simplistic banner that I think is perfect for Thanksgiving! You’ll only need a few supplies for this project. I chose a burgundy color as my paint color because it reminds me of fall leaves & the feeling of warmth. I decided to use a deep blue yarn to complement the burgundy paint while also adding more color to the banner. Feel free to choose whatever colors you would like to make your banner coordinate with your party or home.

After gathering a few sacks of burlap from Goodwill, I cut them into triangles, with the longest side being approximately 10 inches.

After I had cut enough triangles to spell out “GIVE THANKS”, I grabbed my paintbrush and hand painted the lettering. (Be sure to paint your burlap on newspaper since your paint will soak through a majority of the holes in the burlap.) Allow the pennants to dry overnight.

After the pennants were dry, I used the point of my scissors to create two holes in each pennant- about an inch and a half in from both sides and an inch down from the top. And the final step– the stringing! I doubled the yarn to create a stronger line to string the pennants on & allowed a foot and a half on each side for hanging purposes.

DIY: Thanksgiving Wreath

I’ve always been so amazed at people who take the time to create their own wreaths. To be perfectly honest, wreaths have intimidated me in the past. I just couldn’t imagine my wreath’s decor staying attached without a million wires showing.

Finally, one Sunday afternoon, I took the time to try and learn the art of creating a wreath. It really was a lot easier than I could have imagined. I chose a few of my favorite colors, textures, & ribbons and started laying them out to see how I would like them attached to my wreath.

After I figured out the position that I thought looked best, I hot glued the feathers into the wreath, added ribbon and braided twine to the other parts and placed a few rocks as “gems” in it too.

I am so happy with how the wreath turned out & am excited for my friends to be greeted by it when they come visit for Thanksgiving festivities.

Harvest Bark

Well, November’s already here, folks. The majority of the leaves have fallen, the cold air has set in, and all the Nashvillians have pulled out their flannel shirts, thick coats, and tall boots from the back of their closets. I can’t believe the temperatures dropped so quickly!

In between projects I thought I would try a quick and easy dessert. I quickly discovered that harvest bark is one of my new favorite treats! With the salty pretzels mixed with the chocolates, I couldn’t quit eating it. It was so fun to come up with a simple recipe for  a fun and easy dish.

 

The most time-consuming step in this recipe is melting the chocolates. I used a white chocolate bark that I found at the grocery store. All you have to do is melt the chocolates according to the instructions on the back. Pay close attention to the bark and stir while it melts- if you overheat, your bark turns will burn and will not work for your needs.

 

I added a handful of melted orange chips to the top to give my bark some color. Once the chips were melted in a separate pot, I poured over the white chocolate and used a spoon to make a swirl effect.

 

While the chocolates were still warm, I added in my toppings so that they could stick well. I used 1/2 cup of pretzels, 1/3 cup Reese’s Pieces, 1/4 chocolate chips, 1/4 cup of walnuts, and really liked the taste of these ingredients together. But don’t be afraid to go and try a new mix! I think craisins and pecans would be pretty tasty together. 🙂

I ended up using a pretty thick dish so my bark was a bit hard to cut through, so my suggestion would be to pour the bark on wax paper so that it is easier to break & eat.

I really had a great time making this recipe for the blog. There are so many recipes that I want to try and so many projects I want to do this season! I’ve been so completely inspired by the fall this year, and that makes me really happy.
