Homemade Dog Treats

Image

A while ago when I visited my cousin Brenda in her beautiful cabin in the mountains, I took note of all of her homemade goodies. She seemed to be constantly in the kitchen making dips, cakes, and a little bit of everything else! I was especially impressed with her homemade dog treats that her dogs loved.

I asked to share her recipe on the blog and she kindly sent it over. Below is the recipe for some dog treats that she has named “Doggone Goodies”. They are super easy to make, and Rubie just can’t get enough of them!

Image

1 lb. of cooked, drained meat (no bones!- beef, tuna, chicken- I used canned tuna)
2 eggs (with shells)
1/2 cup of veggies (no corn)
1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour (it’s better for your pet, but you can use white flour if you prefer)
1 cup of cornmeal
1/2 tsp. of garlic powder
3 Tbsp. olive oil

1- Mix the dry ingredients together with the olive oil and put them aside.

2- Mix the meat, eggs, and veggies together.

3- Blend the meat, eggs, and veggies together in a blender or food processor until mix well.

4- Stir in the dry ingredients to form a dough.

5- Roll out the dough until it is about 1/4″ thick.

6- Cut the dough into fun shapes if you wish. I used a star cookie cutter, but use whatever shape you like!

7- Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.

See? Super simple. And I know your dog will approve!

I hope you get the chance to try these treats out for your dog. It really made me feel good that I took the time to make a treat right from my very own kitchen for Rubie.

Happy baking!

Homemade Pizza Rolls

Sure, we know ordering a pizza over the phone is easy enough, but we wanted to switch things up and see what would happen if we paired our favorite pizza toppings with crescent rolls. We couldn’t have been more excited about how our experiment turned out!

We gathered some of our favorite fresh fruits, meats, and veggies from the grocery and chopped them into very small pieces so that they could easily fit on the triangle-shaped crescent roll. It was so fun testing out new food combinations on each roll.

Here are some of our favorite topping combinations:
-Mozzarella, pineapple, bacon bits, tomato sauce
-Feta, spinach, olives, tomatoes, olive oil
-Mozzarella, spinach, peppers

Once you have your toppings selected and placed on each individual triangle, roll the crescent roll up beginning with the larger end. We baked our rolls in the oven at 350 for 15 minutes, and they turned out so delicious!

We did learn a few things while creating these miniature pizza treats:
-A few toppings go a long way- remember that your toppings will need to fit within the inside of the roll, so you do not want to overload.
-If you feel that the toppings you have chosen weigh a bit, we suggest using two triangle pieces to “double wrap” your roll. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for letting us share our pizza roll snacks with you!

XOXO!
