Last weekend, we snuck away for a few days to visit our friend Chip at his home in Asheville. It was so thrilling to take in the ever-changing fall leaves & experiencing the unique tastes of this one-of-a-kind city. Asheville truly is a place of its own- from the organic restaurants to the retro dance floors- we just couldn’t take all of it in over the weekend!
Just to name a few of the great places we visited- The Admiral, Ultimate Icecream, The Junction, and last but not least, the breathtaking mountains of the Blue Mountain Ridge.
We both decided that getaway trips like the one we experienced definitely need to happen more often. Who lives somewhere cool & wants two visitors? 🙂
With adventure awaiting what could be more perfect than a unique & fun travel kit to tote all of the necessities. It’s a simple project & the best thing is most of the materials you can find in your house.
Here are some of the materials we used, but you can really add your own personal touch to creating your own travel kit. The possibilities are endless!
Pencil case (we got ours from Walmart for only $1!)
magazines, maps, pictures, scrap paper or fabric
Rosemary used puffy paint to create patterns on her travel kit & created an inside backing repurposing an old map.
I stitched clouds cut out from leftover fabric on the backside of the kit & created a handle by tying knots in ribbon until it was large enough to fit around my wrist.
I used pictures from a magazine cut into stripes for the backing of the travel kit & wrote ‘Adventure Awaits’ with permanent marker on the front.
There you have it… your very own travel kit!
Happy travels to y’all! Paint, tape & create to your hearts content!
Bethany and I are knee deep in house hunting. While we separated our records and dvds with our roommate Sarah last night, we discussed our future plans. T minus three weeks and we’ll be without our pretty little Rosemont home. The air’s definitely beginning to get a bit thicker as we try and figure out a quick plan of action while still trying to maintain composure (and sanity!). It’s funny how things work in life, huh? Everything is stable, life is great, you’re in your routine and then ‘BOOM!’, God throws you a curve ball. Something completely out of the blue knocks you in your head and leaves you on your knees.
We definitely know that He is demolishing this home for us to move onto bigger and better things, but we honestly have no clue where He wants us right now. I kind of think that’s the beauty in all of this. Yes, we’re scared and confused and upset at the thought of having to move out of our beautiful house with our great roommate Sarah, but at the same time, there’s a new adventure out there waiting for us.
I can’t wait to see where we end up in less than a month.
One of the things that Bethany and I discovered when we became steadfast friends was that we both had a love for adventure. It’s true, when we first started talking about future dreams with one another, we envisioned hopping in an airstream and traveling the U.S. selling vintage goods and having out-of-this-world experiences along the way. We never actually thought about the adventures that might present themselves in the meantime! One thing we know for sure is that God has an amazing way of making our plans form into bigger and better visions that He has for us. Just yesterday, we got a phone call from our landlord that in less than one month our house is going to be demolished! Instead of stressing about where we will be living, we’ve decided to have a good chuckle and let God take the reigns of our future. It’s an exciting time and not knowing what the future (especially the next month, goodness!) holds is something that has quite possibly turned into a very unexpected adventure that is yet to fully reveal itself.
We both hope that you’ll join us on these exciting days ahead, and this moving adventure will be quite a crazy ride! Stay tuned for stories, pictures, videos, and other nonsense that will be happening in the next 30 days.
I honestly can’t believe that it is almost August! I have had such a wonderful time this summer thrifting, hiking, taking trips, and crafting, but one of my favorite things I have done so far this summer was go on a pretty spontaneous trip to the beach with my friends from back home. With just a few short days to plan, I decided it would be fun to design a tote for transporting all of my favorite things to the beach. There’s not too much needed to create this tote, and it can easily be done in one afternoon.
The supplies that you’ll need to make this no-sew tote are listed above and can be found at your local craft store. I purchased just a half yard of fabric since I knew that the anchor I created would not take too much to make.
The steps to create the tote are pretty simple! 1- You’ll need to flip your fabric over and draw an anchor the size that you’d like it to be on your bag (not pictured). Once you have your anchored design marked, simply cut it out of the fabric. 2- Use fabric glue on the back of your fabric anchor and adhere it to the tote in whatever placement you prefer. Let the glue dry completely– I let it dry for 30 minutes to make sure it was secure. 3- Once the glue has dried, you can now use paint to add designs to your tote. I chose to use a glitter paint around the edge of the anchor to add a little glitz. Don’t forget to let this glue dry for about 15 minutes.
And there you have it! A nautical-themed tote that can carry all that you need for a quick getaway. Hope you all get to fit in a trip to a favorite place full of exciting adventures, there’s plenty out there to be explored!
I recently got back from a trip back to my hometown state, California. It was incredibly beautiful & looking back at photos I can’t help to feel grateful for my wonderful family. I spent as much time as I possibly could along the California coastline, soaking in the sunshine (with SPF 90+!) & watching my freckles multiply. There’s something about the mystery of ocean that makes me stand in awe & truly appreciate this amazing life we’ve all been given. I hope you enjoy I few snapshots from my adventures!
Btw… I think I love peacocks way too much & still can’t believe I got to hang out with some of these beautiful creatures. Xoxo’s!
